Officers from the Dacorum Safer Neighbourhood Team will be in the car park at Berkhamsted Leisure Centre in Douglas Gardens this weekend, holding a free ‘PL4TE S4FE’ event.

Between 11am and 2pm on Saturday 5 November, motorists will be able to get anti-tamper screws fitted to their vehicle’s number plates in order to help prevent them from being stolen.

Officers will also be giving out home security and crime prevention advice to help keep homes and vehicles more secure from opportunist thieves. The events are also a great opportunity for residents to meet their local Safer Neighbourhood Team officers and discuss any local policing issues.

Safer Neighbourhood Sergeant Sarah Anderson said: ‘Theft of car number plates can be hugely inconvenient, and stolen plates can subsequently be used by criminals for offences such as bilking (theft of petrol) or evading speed camera fines.

‘It takes just minutes for the screws to be fitted and the service is completely free of charge. We will also be chatting to residents and asking them what they’d like to see us focusing on where they live, giving free crime prevention advice and signing residents up to our online neighbourhood watch scheme OWL.

‘We are looking forward to meeting you – and if you can’t make this event, we’re hoping to run some more in the upcoming months. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information.’
