New On-demand ‘Uber-like’ Bus Service Launches in Dacorum

A new on-demand bus service, HertsLynx, launched in Dacorum on Monday 11 December. It forms part of Hertfordshire County Council’s plans to improve transport across the county and is supported in part from the £29.7m Bus Service Improvement Plan funding.
Dacorum residents will now have a flexible, ‘uber-like’ way to travel around the borough. Unlike traditional bus services, HertsLynx doesn’t follow a timetable or have any set routes. Instead passengers can choose from a wide variety of pick up and drop off locations within designated operating zones. Passengers can select where and when they would like to travel by using the HertsLynx app, booking online or by phone.
The service will cover Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead and Tring, as well as surrounding villages such as Aldbury, Long Marston, Markyate and Wiggington. It’s designed to improve connections between rural villages and larger town centres, making it easier for people to get to work or school, go shopping, or travel to appointments, without needing to use a car or taxi.
A similar service has been operating in east and north Hertfordshire for just over two years and recently carried out its 50,000th trip.
Cllr Phil Bibby, Executive Member for Highways and Transport for Hertfordshire County Council, said: ‘HertsLynx has proved to be a popular and practical alternative for residents living in east and north Hertfordshire and it’s especially pleasing to see it now being extended into Dacorum. Providing residents in rural areas with a flexible and frequent bus service that meets their needs is extremely important to allow them to go about their day to day lives.
‘We want residents to know that we’re with you this winter and HertsLynx Dacorum is a great new service that will benefit residents throughout the borough.’
Passengers can travel on the service for just £2 per single journey until December 2024, with discounts available to concessionary pass holders.
